Flight from Frankfurt to New York

At last, we'd waited long enough for this day. Got to the airport 3 1/2 hours before the flight hoping to get good seats, too late, they were all taken.

After landing in JFK, it took 1 1/2 hours to get through passport control, having to leave 2 finger prints and a photo. Amit was there waiting for us and he never changes.

Went to bed shattered that nicht after being up for 23 hours.

Took the train into Manhattan and walked and walked and walked , , , , , , , up and down Broadway, 5 th Avenue, through China Town, to Battery Park to see the Statue of Liberty, past the Rockefeller Center and Empire State Building where hundreds were queuing to get in, Ground Zero etc.
I finally managed to go the the hair dressers as I didn't have the time before we left Germany. (Nati I had my hair straightened, doesn't suit me though, thank goodness the curls are back next time I wash it) Then, as I was sitting with wet hair and the hair dresser doing her job, Guenter tried telling me with signs, mimes and a very worried face that we had no money left to pay her. We had both relied on one another to take enough money or / and credit card,  but we came to pay and had only 20.00 $ left. We made up a big story that we had been pick-pocketed, had to leave the camera with her and go back the next day to pay.  By the meantime it was 3.00 pm, we hadn't had anything to eat since breakfast, still had the return train tickets to buy which then left us with 6.00 $ between us for an afternoon in Manhattan!!!
We shared a cheese burger, chips and still had enough left for a coffee and tea each.

Went to Manhattan again after breakfast and straight to the hair dressers for the camera. Did more walking but also took the famous New York metro this time, which is extremely loud. Had lunch at New York's best falafel place in West Village, which is a bit like Schwabing, walked up and down 5 th Avenue again and around Madison Square Garden.

Dropped by at Times Square, where hundreds were sitting on the path or camping chairs waiting for the new year"s countdown. Some had actually spent the night there to have the best "seats" for the show. By the evening "millions" had gathered and 40 tons of rubbish had to be cleaned away the next morning.
